Kristal Ambrose’s (MMM’19) dedication to tackling the issue of plastic waste in our oceans led to a single-use plastics ban in her home country of The Bahamas, and inspired youth to become citizen scientists and join this worthy fight.

Dr. Margaret Oulton (PhD’75) — a professor and prenatal researcher who made a discovery that would eventually lead to the safe delivery of over 10,000 infants across our region — is the inaugural recipient of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Golden Eagle Lifetime Achievement Award.

This year’s winners—a dentist, a lawyer, a musician, a judge and a nurse practitioner—each share a dedication to their communities, a commitment to justice and a passion for change.

As part of her work at Â鶹´«Ã½ and on the gynecology unit at the IWK, Dr. Rachel Ollivier (PhD’22) created the first patient educational tool in Nova Scotia on sexual health after birth.

Dr. Cynthia Calkin has won an international award for a journal article on findings that are helping to change the lives of people experiencing treatment-resistant bipolar disorder.
