Admission Procedure

The application to the graduate programs in Computer Science (PhD, MCS, MACS, MDI, MSc-Comp. Biology & Bioinformatics) is as follows:

Step 1: Submit Online Application

• Complete the  via the Registrar’s Office.
• Tip: Prepare your responses in a text file first, then copy-paste into the form.
• Processing time: 2–3 business days before it reaches the Faculty of Computer Science.

Step 2: GradApp Access

• Once received, you’ll get your CSID and password.
• Use these to log into and upload:
  • Unofficial transcripts (official ones must be sent to the Faculty of Graduate Studies within 90 days of starting the program).
  • Other required documents.

Step 3: Reference Letters

• You must provide university/college or company email addresses for two referees in the Electronic Reference System during your online application. 
• Referees will receive an email within one week to submit their letters online.
• If needed, letters can be emailed to: graduate@cs.dal.ca
• Letters must meet at least two of the following:
  • Sent from an official email address.
  • On official letterhead.
  • Signed by the referee.
• Ask referees to include your Banner ID in the email subject line.

Step 4: English Language Proficiency

• Required for all applicants, even if your previous studies were in English.
• The document must verify that you meet the required level of English proficiency necessary for academic success in our programs.
• Submit documentation that meets the FGS English Language Requirements.
• English proficiency documentation is not required for graduates of Canada, USA, UK, Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, Uganda and Ghana.
